Sometimes you don’t need to know what an artist is even singing about in order to love a song. I seriously had no idea what “Backtafunk” by The Bee Gees was even about before I Googled the lyrics several hours ago (downtime at work is real, y’all). Turns out it’s a pretty straightforward love song. This particular person is so awesome she brings Barry, Robin and Maurice “backtafunk”. I guess they’re saying her love is funky? Or funky is this state of euphoria that…you know what? I’m not going to even attempt to intellectualize this. I’ll just say that the (very ‘80s) production and the typically creamy Gibb harmonies put me in a state of “backtafunk”. Whatever the funk that means.
