“Happy Birthday” by Stevie Wonder (1980)

Two things you can do to get a five star rating from me, no further questions asked.

  1. Write a song about and dedicated to the memory of the civil rights movement’s most powerful and beloved leader, and make it part of your life’s work to get his birthday recognized as a national holiday (and succeed!)
  2. Watch that song become so beloved that it replaces a nearly century-old standard as the de facto birthday anthem for Black America.
