“Crazy Little Thing Called Love” by Queen (1980)

I love Queen doing a lovable pastiche of Elvis generally more than I like Elvis doing Elvis.

It’s crazy to think of how chameleonic Queen was musically, and crazier to think of the level of success they obtained despite not really having a signature musical sound. Freddie’s voice aside, “Another One Bites the Dust” and “Crazy Little Thing Called Love” (to say nothing of “Bohemian Rhapsody”) sound like they were recorded by three different artists. A band like that wouldn’t get in the door at any major label in the 21st century. Imagine trying to get them on super-segregated radio? No way in hell.

Freddie Mercury allegedly wrote this song while taking a (very luxurious, I’m sure) bath. There’s a random fact to fill up space because I don’t have anything intelligent to say about “Crazy Little Thing Called Love” except that it’s awesome.

How have I never seen this video before? This is the height of ‘80s camp. Holy crap. This shit is damn near gayer than the one where they all dressed in drag.
