Black Sheep’s debut, A Wolf In Sheep’s Clothing, is a slept-on gem in the annals of golden age-hip hop. The dick jokes and casual misogyny might not be everyone’s cup of tea, but there’s also a lightness and playfulness that separates the occasional moments of SMH from the uglier moments of SMDH by, say, N.W.A. The “Choice Is Yours” remix and Tribe’s “Scenario” remix dropped within weeks of one another at the start of ‘92, temporarily switching the Native Tongues collective from those weird hippie people to artists who set every party in NYC off. And then they splintered. Such is life.
