“Cannonball” by The Breeders (1993)

The year was 1993. I had never heard a song by Pixies or Throwing Muses (still haven’t heard anything by the latter). I probably didn’t know what a “breeder” was. But I kept hearing “Cannonball” at my record store job and then I’d go drinking afterwards and hear that rumbly guitar-and-bass riff pumping out of the jukeboxes, and I kinda fell in love. “Cannonball” is delightfully lo-fi and alternative-it doesn’t even have a chorus. But it’s still catchy as hell. And it still sounds fantastic coming out of a jukebox.
